Today I had the honor of doing a podcast interview with Grandmaster Maurice Ashley!
From the Millionaire Chess website,
Maurice Ashley made history as the first African-American International Grandmaster and translated his love to others as a three-time national championship coach, two-time author, ESPN commentator, iPhone app designer, puzzle inventor, and motivational speaker. He is working as a Joint Fellow at Harvard and MIT to bring the benefits of chess and other classic games to a wider educational audience through the innovative use of technology.
Incredibly passionate about chess, Maurice is now helping to raise the stakes with the Millionaire Chess Open. For 10 years, he has wanted to host a tournament of this quality and calibre, and is thrilled to be realizing this dream.
Maurice and I talked about
- Maurice’s Chess Background
- The HB Global Chess Challenge
- The Millionaire Chess Open
- Motivations for the tournament
- Tournament playing conditions, prizes, security, perks
- and much more!
