October 2009 Tactics Time: Information Overload

The October 2009 Tactics Time features several problems with an Overload and Removing the Defender tactic.  These two tactics are very similar, with the main idea that the defending piece is forced to try and do two things at one time, which is impossible.

Also included are a nice minor piece checkmate combination, skewer, trapped piece, and an interesting puzzle sent in by Jeff Baffo.

Several games are taken from the Pikes Peak Open.  Special thanks to Buck Buchanan who enters lots games by hand after various Colorado tournaments are over.  Without these games, writing this column would have been much more difficult.
