April 2008 Tactics Time: Failure to Launch

The April 2008 Tactics Time column features several positions where the player failed to find the winning move, and either suffered a loss, or ended up with a draw instead of a win.  These examples show the importance of finding the best move in the critical positions.

Emmanuel Lasker, World Chess Champion 1894 -1921, said ‘The hardest game to win is a won game.’  Personally I think the hardest game to win is a lost game, but I think I know what he meant by that.

A variety of Colorado tournaments are featured, including The Larimer County Open, Colorado Springs Open, Winter Springs Open, and the Al Ufer Memorial.

Enjoy!
